Brownsville residents upset at cemetery vandalism
Residents are upset after at least 50 tombstones have been vandalized at a Brownsville cemetery in the past few weeks.
Police said vandals have toppled the tombstones at St. Mary’s Cemetery in recent weeks. Neighbors said they think they know who is causing the problem.
“Police will show up, but by time they get here the kids are gone,” Mike Gordon said. “I understand they can’t be everywhere at once.”
Gordon, who lives near the cemetery, said he’s seen kids causing mischief in the cemetery.
“They just don’t have anything better to do,” Gordon said. “There is nothing for them to do but run around here.”
Officials said the cost to repair the tombstones is starting to add up.
Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to contact police.
